What is Different About Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutrition is an upcoming exciting area of Functional Medicine, a different model of healthcare. Functional nutrition works alongside the standard medical approach to help you take more control of your health and pain. Standard healthcare, although fantastic at diagnosing us with disease or syndromes and reducing death rates, is generally quite poor at telling us how we got to that point. It is also often not helpful in telling you what you can do better in how you life your life to improve your condition. And a lot of the time, it cannot help certain groups of people who feel unwell yet medically they are fine - results are normal. People can be disease free yet still have dysfunction that makes them unwell, or feel pain, and this is big part of functional nutrition.
How does what we eat, how we think, how we exercise, how we sleep, how we digest, absorb, and utilise nutrients influence our health and pain? This is a good question and what I have spent the last 13 years trying to answer, and I will be spending many more. Through my research, clinical practice and client results, the answer is, it can, a lot! So much so that it can make the difference between feeling terrible and feeling great. Often we find through a deeper understanding and testing model, different systems of our body are not working efficiently and this can contribute to health problems and pain. This can we can improve greatly through functional nutrition - finding out where your weaknesses are and make them stronger.
